I think people are a little confused about it. From the start i see the statement of them been branded with it even if this wasn't suppouse to be something as the fabricated idol we already known. YET! this kind of things are what give it a lot of troubles to certain people or even the managament of Hololive was taking them as true idols as well. It seems that also gives the talents lots of troubles on their own until the boom make management to give up on maintain the status of "seiso" idols (something they already acomplish only with Sora because she was on it from the begin) and leave the others more freedom.

Restrictions still exist within them for identity protection, but its still the same idea as some artists protecting their RL persona for don't get doxxed and harrassed by unwanted pricks.

A lot of that is true, but not so much for Vtubers that Gura is.

Reminder that Towa was suspended and Mano Aloe was forced to retire because of fans like that. Not all of what was quoted is true for vtubers but some of it very much is, especially for the 'idol' types.

Aloe's case was something else lol but she retire out of own decision.

Because she was being harassed irl to the point she and those close to her couldn't even feel safe in her own home. Her choosing to do it doesn't change that it was ultimately a decision forced by the wills of others.
