Misplaced nostalgia for a fantasized era. These who miss the USSR are mostly these who never knew it, and who claim that reports of power abuse, starvation, corruption, and being called idiot poopface by El Moustachio the Third were invented by "them", aka "the capitalism", or "the corporations". There is some genuine nostalgia for the Russian on the East side of Germany, I heard, but it's still pretty rare. People are more likely to remember the people shot when trying to get over the Berlin Wall or the disappearance, torture and so on than the good sides.

That is true and unfortunately it happens for many other countries’ pasts. Ustase, early Shōwa era, Chetniks, Bandera, British Empire, Horthy, Ceausescu, Franco, Ottoman Empire, Russian Empire, military dictatorships in Latin America to name a few are noteworthy examples.
