From the way she managed to cause a controversy before even making her debut I wanna predict she won't last long.
Dunno, it might actually sway her to(ironically) go down the same path as Towa. She has a controversy that stirs up the Japanese people, because they literally do want to see her as a celibate idol waifu ready for them as well as wanting to see the industry as a dreamy place where everyone is happy 24/7, so she might lose viewers out on that.
It happens to other people as well, Subaru got flakked when she straight up admitted that all Hololive members' schedule clearly don't allow for any healthy amount of sleep. Japanese fans were angry because how dare they admit their idol jobs weren't perfect.
But instead like Towa, Aloe might just end up getting more attention through international viewers this way since many more are actually willing to look as them without the idol pedestal, that they are flawed humans with a flawed job.
I'd also take it that if the controversy is about Aloe admitting the bad side of the Vtuber industry, then at the very least I bet she must have mentally prepared for this to some extent.
And I mean, Towa and more recently, Aki both got these massive boost from the sympathy the kaigainikis are willing to give that the Japanese viewers weren't. Heck, I myself hadn't subbed to any gen 5 because I don't buy into the hype machine and I'm actually waiting to find out which one I like before I actually sub to them, but now if it is going to help Aloe feel like there's fans waiting for her return I might actually sub to her.
From what I can tell, she left a test stream with her model on a personal twitter, resulting in a leak and her getting banned by the idol agency. Temporary leave without pay I guess.
Apparently, she had a boyfriend a while back too.
She got fully doxxed. People were calling her personal phone to bully her. Fans have been trying to rally for support online.
It's honestly quite complicated but if I were to try and simplify it:
Official statements
Someone dug up a private twitcast where she tested out her live2D with the approval of her manager. In doing so, she was also doxxed. With her private info leaked, people were calling her home and she was being accused of being with a boyfriend. She apologized in a video and she then had to take a two week break. All these are from the video she uploaded.
Unofficial
Someone dug up a private twitcast (another one) of hers which was originally from 2019 where she talked about details of vtuber industry including info about the retirement of a Nijisanji vtuber. As mentioned above, she got doxxed. Japanese fans did not like her talking about the industry and revealing sensitive info and some are not even true. Thus, they want her fired for being not trustworhy.
The twitcast I referred to has been subbed and can easily be found. Simply searching for Aloe or even Chitose (in r/virtualyoutubers) will yield the video.

Ah yes my daily reminder that idol fans can be the worst things about the industry. On the plus side at least she doesn't have to cut her hair off as an apology.....christ almighty I hate idol fans like these.

What the fuck. Isn't it public knowledge that idols have a really shitty job where being rich and famous are the only good sides?
Well it's partly the Japanese fan autism and also partly on her for venting about things she should only be sharing with her fellow idols. Either way, I'm confident that Polka is gonna be the one to carry Gen 5.
I’m sorry, a while back? That would mean like, back long ago yeah? I’m surprise that would matter but then again, stupidity knows no limit.
Also, WHY THE FUCK WOULD ANY OF THIS BE AN ISSUE FOR A VIRTUAL CHARACTER’S VOICE ACTOR?!?
How the fuck are we still on shit like this? They’re fucking voice actors! I understand if this shit happen to actual, human idols which is still bullshit, but it never made sense to me for Voice actors. Your reason for liking them should be because of the characters they play or how good their voice is. How they look shouldn’t even be a factor, unless they are ACTUAL singers and idols as well.
God, and why the flying fuck am I not even surprised? Jesus, how the fuck did I know something like this would have happened the moment these Virtual Utubers were going to be a thing?! This is why the industry is becoming so hard for newcomers and this is why it’s just sad now that people can still be like this, after all these years.

It depends. I mean yeah waifuism in general is bullshit but the flak here is largely less about her having a boyfriend and more about her talking about the bad side of the industry as a whole.
Is it bad? I don't know. I don't like any kind of celebrity pedestals so I don't feel it's bad, but yes I can see how it can make the managements can put a question mark on her trustworthiness. You never know what else she might spill that can paint them in the abusive light.
For the boyfriend I think even most Japanese fans understand that Vtubers are allowed to have private life. There was a debate when Nijisanji's Shiina Yuika was exposed to currently having a boyfriend and yet most says she is allowed to have one exactly because her character isn't an idol. Kinda bullshit reason overall but at least they're willing to bend.

More to the point I was making, her boyfriend was apparently at least partially doxxed as well, and his twitter was also getting heavily bombed. I think I read Mano (during a public apology announcement) even asked to leave him out of this since she broke up with him clear before she even joined.
There will always be people who try to take things too far. Creeps are an unfortunate byproduct of celebrity entertainment. Luckily, there are also professionals out there who are skilled with these kinds of problems, so I'm sure between the Hololive team and the support of her fans she'll find a way to clean this up and get back up on the virtual stage.

The problem more comes from the antis who are trying to push a false narrative that she's untrustworthy for Hololive. If you fact check the source video, the company her past life talks about isn't even Hololive at all, and she's not trying to push her worries and/or speculations out into the public, what with the original video literally only having like 17 views.
Literally none of this would have been an issue had scumbag antis not dug up her personal info and pushed private info out into the public, along with trying to rile up fans from both Hololive and Nijisanji over misinformation. She worried in that video that she as a VTuber she would always be in danger of getting doxxed and harassed, and the antis did exactly that.
If Cover hasn't fired her, or Nijisanji hasn't done anything, there's no more the antis trying to masquerade as concerned "fans" can say in the matter.
It was discovered upon closer examination that there was never any valid reason for any controversy let alone any suspension. Cover is just criminally incompetent, and could have easily avoided pointlessly sabotaging their newly debuted talent. At this point even Peko or Haachama would do a better job of running this retarded shitshow that's still somehow larping as an idol group. Can't wait to see what kind of new self-inflicted injury they'll come up with in a month or two.

Actually Cover did do their jobs, though publicly it didn't appear so. Two weeks suspension may seem harsh for what her official video stated, but for the shitstorm that happened behind the scenes, the two week suspension was actually a good move in several ways. One, it showed that they didn't actually just fire her like many of the shit-stirrers were hoping for, and two, it allowed for a sizable space of time to allow the shitstorm to die down, for Cover and Aloe to hopefully work on ways to prevent further harassment in the future, and also help to prevent her next stream to be completely filled with angry rabid antis baying for her blood. By the time she comes back, hopefully the antis will have gotten bored and moved on to a different target, and she'll be greeted more with actual fans who had been waiting for her return.
But yes, you're right that there was really zero reason for this controversy to have gotten as big as it did. Aloe did make some mistakes, but nothing that warranted the sheer amount of hate directed at her by the JP antis.
Cover has shit the bed hard a few times recently (god fucking dammit how are some archives still sub-100) but this absolutely wasn't one of them. The break was the right decision.
If she had continued streaming, the attacks would only intensify and chat would have been a toxic and mentally harmful mess. The correct choice is to wait out the storm. It's just bad luck that the controversy came up right after her debut instead of giving her a few weeks/months to build a fanbase.
There's another indie vtuber,
Kusunoki Sio,
who is also having controversy issues right now. She chose to take only a 3 days break and returned to a mess of a live chat, and people started trying to bruteforce into her accounts, forcing her to take an extended indefinite break. A fixed two weeks certainly sounds better compared to this.
The suspension was a good thing, as others have already explained, she wouldn't be a vtuber much longer if she was allowed to continue being active while a bunch of shitlords continued harassing her.
What they should have done instead, if they were at all competent, was to place an army of moderators in her streams until the antis are gone, and if necessary take legal action against sites coordinating attacks against her.
Yeah, I guess Cover should have stopped the calls directly to her house, too. I'm sure the all powerful Cover can do that, and I'm sure the Japanese legal system would support a case against anonymous groups of people on the internet. It's definitely just that easy. /extreme sarcasm
Calls can be traced, numbers can be changed, and people and websites can be sued. Japan isn't a land of anarchy where laws don't exist.
You cannot sue anonymous people, and you can't sue a website for what its users are saying about you. Taking people to court is also expensive, and you can't sue a few dozen individual people as if they're a collective. You would have to take them each to court individually, and courts can just tell you to fuck off if they think your case is stupid or unviable.
There is literally nothing Cover can directly do about this situation. They can ban people from her stream, and that's about as far as their reach extends until someone actually tries to harass Mano IRL.
Lol called it here and it only took 2 weeks. Why are simps like demosquid so ready to jump the gun and lay down their lives for Aloe when she didn't even get a chance to establish herself as a likeable personality before fucking up her career? Hololive's talents don't even have to work anymore because people just consume product and get excited for next product.

It's even worse if you consider they don't feel bad about the person at all, yet they feel bad about the avatar they just met once and they will forget as soon as a new generation of 2D interactive waifus arrive (just like they forgot everyone else). Are they really that desperate of femenine affection even if its in a fake (read: virtual) form?
I don't know who she? is, yet I know what she? will do: move on with her? life. You should be doing the same.

You certainly haven't read many comments made by actual Aloe sympathizers.
A lot of them(me included), isn't angry because of the 2D waifu on screen, but because what real people in the real world did to her real actress in the real world. It's toxic and petty, a bad representation of the fanbase. It also puts to light the possibility that something like this could happen to any Vtuber at any time, not only ones who just debuted.
Or they are angry because Aloe graduating means all the real world efforts that went under to create Aloe the Vtuber(drawing, live2D rigging, marketing) has all been for naught.
Or they like the rest of gen 5 and now it's just going to leave a scar on the whole gen forever, that the team will never be complete without Aloe yet going forward we're not supposed to talk about her.
Personally I don't care for the Aloe design, I personally find there to be already too many demon girl Vtubers. That doesn't change the fact that what doxxers did to her real life actress is unforgivable.
Don't draw conclusions that everyone else are losers if you hadn't even hear them yet. 2020 has way more than enough toxic tribalism on every other issues already.
Quite the contrary, I've read enough comments to know you threat these persons like products and you don't care about them as soon as a new generation comes out. If you were against this you would not be consuming hololive products in the first place, but you sure love to consume their short term products in exchange of some affection. It does not matter who is behind the avatar, as long as it's from hololive it will be OK.
If she can. Moving on with one's life after having been doxxed, personally cold-called, and hunted by a swarm of spergs is a difficult task.
If she didn't kill herself in the worst of it, she'll be "fine". The worst has passed, and her leaving was sadly the best decision to stop the bullying. Now people will forget about her. Hopefully the simps will forget her first.

Yep, this is what I'm talking about. Ultimately all you care about is being able to point fingers at other people and think they're loser strawman and you're so alpha and whatever. Really puts into question who's the one with self-esteem problem here.
If we are to move on to other Vtubers, first thing we'd be doing exactly what you told us to do so I don't understand the point of this stupid antagonism(except again, you being able to call someone else losers and convince yourself you're better). And second, it'd be because we cannot do anything either way. It's not like we can or should physically seek out the doxxers in real life if we want.
I'm just really sick of people in 2020 with this mentality on every fucking issues ever. Saying shits like these doesn't make you look better. It makes you look stupid.
