Not entirely science fiction. Steam engines with the corkscrew drive did actually exist. They were mostly used in snowy climates to move sleds full of logs I believe. I don't remember if there was ever an amphibious version, though there certainly could have been. Slapping an electromotive on it is kinda neat though. It would definitely have some advantages over both wheeled and tracked vehicles in some terrains.

Not only steam engines! The Americans experimented in the 50s or 60s with this design.
