I hear it's a solid gun. Do you have the carbine or the full rifle?

I have the full un-scoped rifle, unfortunately I have never shot it. I don't know how to get the ammo. I picked it up as more of a collectors piece.

Check Gun-Deals.com, They've got a cost-per-bullet listing, Right now it shows that you can get 880 rounds of Bugarian steel core milsurp for $150.

Keep in mind that the surplus ammo is going to be highly corrosive. Be sure to run windex through the bore immediately after shooting, and give it a full cleaning when you get home. Best to search online for info on your particular model.

A lot of ranges don't let you shoot steel core either.

Windex is not that necessary. Water is, preferably hot.

Ammonia's effect of neutralising the corrosive agents is overrated, the thing you really need to do is running a bowl of boiling water down your barrel so you dissolve the salts, drying it and proceeding with regular cleaning. Windex is just a hot-fix you do on the range right after you are done shooting.

Fudds and range queens with AR's really like to bash the corrosive milsurp, but as long as you do the thing I described within 6-12 hours after you leave the range, you'll be fine.

Never use water, even boiling, its too much trouble to make sure the barrel perfectly dry, otherwise its going to rust. Just use hoppes 5 brand solution to wipe down the barrel, it will neutralize the corrosive salts caused by the primers of surplus ammo and clean out the barrel.

I currently have every model of the Mosin save for the Dragoon variation of the original 1891 rifle. And I love every single one of them
