... Is "in this space" the correct translation? I never heard this expression before within such a context; what is it supposed to mean?
It literally means "physical space/area", but "area" seemed to broad a term, implying the neighborhood rather than Tsuji's home in particular. I guess "room" might work; it actually means "room" as in "room to move around" in this context, but it might imply "this location" better. ("This location" itself seems a bit vague in scale to me, again possibly implying a larger spot than Tsuji's home per se.)
