1.) She's happy. She's moved on with her life after having her home town and family killed. This effectively renders her entire backstory and her attachment to Cloud null and void.
2.) Without her backstory, her wish for revenge against Shinra, her entire motivation for even being in the group is gone. She's just *there* now.
3.) Her dynamic with the other party members is ruined.
Instead of being a guilty party in league with Barret, she is *very* tentatively at odds with him, but it's pointless since Barret himself has been white washed. The end result is that Tifa is basically complaining about nothing! She has nothing in common with Barret now, other than Shinra hurt them at some point in their lives. They aren't comrades in arms, they're closer to a team on a bowling league.
Tifa is a completely different person from Aeris, from a completely different walk of life, with completely different backgrounds. Even if Cloud weren't a reason to be at odds with one another, there's plenty of reason for them to at least *hesitate* about forming a friendship...but they hit it off immediately! For no apparent reason!
Worst of all is Cloud. Cloud is *fucked up*. Cloud is a broken person. EXTREMELY BROKEN. And in the original, so was Tifa. But now? He's the only one with problems. Instead of serving as *one another's* salvation and redemption...Cloud is going to be leaning on her and her alone. She doesn't need him for anything! Her life is perfect!
And people are happy regardless! It doesn't matter what her reasons are, it doesn't matter where she comes from, what she wants to do. As long as she's ridiculous and kind of sexy action girl, people are going to eat up whatever it is she's serving!
Ultimately, that's not going to be enough. If she were a completely new character, no one would *give a shit* about her. There's better written characters out there. There's better designed characters out there. There's sexier characters out there.
None of what made her a beloved and classic character survived intact.

I'll be honest it didn't occur to me at first, I just thought all three outfits catered to one kink or another depending on the outfit

I recall that Tifa was initially confused if you advise her to wear something 'sporty', citing that sporty was something she normally wore. Maybe the Chinese outfit is her just picking something despite your advice.
