Pretty much sums up the Italian ships in a nutshell. To quote a certain abridged master of a vampire, "I can't help but ponder the frightful headway we'd make if they put that sort of energy into their job".

I think the fourth panel may be a reference to the movie The Italian Job.

Let's all stop to consider the fact that of the three locations the Italians accidentally tunneled to, two of them are islands and the third is literally an underwater bunker. This definitely belongs in "How is that even possible" given that they somehow tunnel underneath the ocean floor.
