Themselves if you study history. The enemy of my enemy is my friend... No matter how horrible in retrospect. That is the reality for not only Estonia, but all eastern European nation states who viewed the German invasion as "salvation" from Soviet communism. History is not so simple. Horrific really.

You are a little wrong. The estonian people (incl. all baltic states) supported both sides - both Soviet and German. The estonian people greeted soviets, during accession of Estonia to the USSR, and germans during nazi invasion in 41.
The ruling governments of the countries of Eastern Europe did not perceive the German invasion as a "salvation" from the USSR, but rather only the conservative and ultra-right parties of these countries, which became a collaboration government under the rule of the German Reich.

These poor fuckers. "No matter who wins, we lose."
I still think Poland had it worse.

You seem to be ignoring a few things and not of least the first invader. The Soviet Union's military invaded and conquered Estonia along with Latvia and Lithuania in June 1940. Communism was not brought by choice, but by the gun. When Germany went to war in the East against "communism" most Eastern European armies actually re-aligned and fought with the Germans, not against. Not only that, but entire Soviet divisions attempted to surrender and join forces with the Germans to free their lands from communist rule. Hitler however, in his infinite arrogance, refused to accept these forces. Then of course began the numerous atrocities behind the lines.

Thus my initial statement: "History is not so simple. Horrific really."
