I've never had snake, but if it tastes anything like eel, I'm in.

Different texture. Snake tastes a bit like alligator (which is also very tasty). Needless to say snake tastes better than eel.

Where do you get to eat snakes, eels, and alligators? Did you guys just return from operation Snake Eater?

I live in Florida and I've never had gator. The hell's up with that! [grabs shotgun and wading boots and a big useless net]

Freshwater eel (unagi) is a very common dish in Japan, though I think snake and alligator are a bit more specialized.

Even in the west, any local Asian market should have frozen eel for sale. It's often pre-seasoned so you just grill and serve with rice.

I can get frozen eel here and throw it in a toaster oven for 10 minutes--it's god's own snack critter. MMM.

You can get alligator at any good Cajun restaurant, and you should try it.

@seabook: Uhh... well, the term 'freshwater' can be a bit misleading here. The Japanese Eel (Anguillia japonica) is catadromous, meaning it will go to sea for spawning. There are other species of eels which are truly freshwater, like the Common Swamp Eel (Monopterus albus), which is a delicacy in Asia.
