Aerith was the original love interest. but was slated for death because there were too many girls in the game. Also, Steak, seriously get some help.

If one supposedly cares about a story and it's characters, they should care about the canonical depiction. Otherwise, what was even the point? Your jollies?

Myself, I was always fond of the harem route, stacking the party with Tifa and Aerith until the end of Disc one, and then replacing Aerith with Yuffie when the "thing" happens.

Actually, that's pretty much my party lineup strategy for every JRPG I've played... :D

Because entertaining noncanon ideas definitely means you don't care about the story, right? You definitely can't harmlessly explore alternate interpretations and events if you're a true fan.

Holding discussions with supposed fans of the game, most people haven't the faintest idea what even happened in it, even when the game spells things out for them.

The remake isn't a 1:1 remake, it's a reimagining if the story if say someone with godlike power decided they didn't want to lose.
