It's what every country has in hand to make its own versions and to adapt it to the nationals palate. Like here, in Mexico, you can have soy sauce mixed with Serrano chilies and lemon in every Japanese restaurant and the American version of the taco is completely unknown to any Mexican that haven't been in the US.
Also, I've read that Japanese ketchup has a better flavor, so it can be used as a sauce.
