Curse in DS1 halved the player's health. Can only be cured via rare consumable or an NPC in New Londo. Neither are particularly convenient. Also, iirc, it was worse pre-patch when it would continuously halve one's health until 1 HP.

Yep. It was pretty horrid to deal with early on, though the buggers are easy to dodge, actually discovering the way to cure it without going online to find the info lead to some very frustrated hours for me.

Halved healthbar until you use a purging stone that is either exceedingly rare or stupidly expensive, all on top of being an instakill with one of the ways to increase the fill meter's length is walking around with excess humanity waiting to be lost.

In DS2 you can completely ignore it mostly using the Ring of Binding and completely if you have Vendrick's Blessing so it's not that big of deal there compared to DS1
