I'd be more worried about the shark in the middle of the classroom.

The teruterubouzu seems to indicate rain so it's probably a fresh water flood.

Those are clearly mushrooms. The image is also tagged as such.

I think this is an alarmist imagery of what daily life will be on coastal cities of Japan (such as Tokyo) should global warming result in raised sea levels.

But that doesn't account for the mushrooms.

It's warm and damp and sheltered from direct light. Therefore: Mushrooms.

More like you're the one smoking crack if you don't see it.

Are those flowers on the desk supposed to be for a deceased classmate?

The more I look at this image, I realize how bleak the reality of such a place must be.

Think about it for a while, and you realize that ever last one of those people is going to die.

Those are water flowers, they grow on the surface of shallow lakes or estuaries. They're growing near the telecom, too.

it's also rather worthy looking at the pixiv tags
for instance, we learn the leg in the water is "one-girl synchro swimming"

    (late to the pool)
I see people doing little things (drying wet socks, teru teru bouzu) and carrying on with life as though nothing was wrong when a disaster stares them in the face. I think this is partly satire, mostly social commentary.

(Or it could be resilience, enduring normalcy in the face of change, but somehow I kinda doubt it.)

I like that one. It makes better sense.
People doing what they can to survive it, some drowning (or almost drowning) in it, some just getting through the day, some having given up, and some trying to make the best of the situation. It works on many levels.

In hindsight I don't know what was so puzzling about this image, it's just a complaint about those ridiculously wet/humid days where nothing feels properly dry.
