It really isn't, but Garfield attained notoriety lately in general as some Memetic Badass one way or another. Doesn't matter if they make him into an Eldritch Abomination or a swap of another character, the principle is the same either or.

I thought the inspiration was that, since the similarities: the clouds surrounding him, the glowing eyes and the uncanny pose.
