Considering that those things can survive multiple nuclear attacks to the face, I kinda doubt a simple beam rifle is going to do much more than possibly annoy it.

Oh, I'd love to get caught up in THAT one. In spite of my age, obesity, thinning pate and solitary interests, I'm not quite undateable enough yet. Perhaps arguing about that while in garb at a Ren fair would do the trick.

I must respectfully disagree with your position, considering that "Kicking reason to the curb" resulted in a 10 million light year tall mecha . With this evidence, I submit that "Kicking reason to the curb" has no limits.
White Base:"Damn it! Lt. Rei, We told you, you can't hurt it until that kid neutralizes its AT Field! I know you don't want him to get hurt but it's not just your lives at stake here!" NERV HQ: "Wait, the pilot is Lt. Rei?"

Indeed. Super Robot Wars is the ultimate in Fix Fic.
Of course, Shinji *did* still have his total breakdown...and because he had further to fall it took multiple nuclear-level Bright Slaps to bring him back around.
But still, he gained a brand new shiny pair of chrome steel balls in my mind when he told Kira that he was being a douche. (Which he was.) When Shinji Ikari says you need to grow a pair, you know you've fallen.

White Base: "Different Rei. Not Rei Ayanami."
NERV HQ: "Oh OK, thanks for clear-- Wait, there's another Rei?!

deathstar one or two? One had no shields, so the enterprise could just scan it, then fire a photon torpedo or ninety at the shaft... maybe the anti-fighter guns could stop it... but I don't see how a bunch of TIEs are going to hurt the Enterprise. ST's shield tech and phasors are just far to advanced over SW's.
As for the picture, what makes you think that New Types aren't able to generate an AT field? The scale is also fairly wrong, I think. I don't remember any of the humanoform Angels being that much bigger than a Gundam.

The best info I can find on the average Gundam's height is 18m, or about the height of a barn silo. Evas, on the other hand, are officially 40m tall, though their size reaches up to 200m during animation solely for dramatic effect. Most angels are at least a little bigger than an Eva. Just think of episode 1-2 of Eva, with Sachiel there standing with its "head" a little above or a little below all the Japanese high-rise apartment buildings.

Come on guys, nobody refers to Amuro as "Ray" in any capacity, especially no one from White Base... If we are going by logic from the original series, they would identify someone's rank or status along with their given name instead of their family name, often.
