Whoever did the art for the M4A1 DD equipment card flubbed the historical accuracy a bit. The fairy is shown sitting on top of the tank's "float", legs dangling off the side. This would be impossible for two reasons:
The sides were not rigid, being made of canvas. The canvas was held up by pressurized air in rubber tubes and horizontal metal hoops.
There was no top to it. It's function was simply to allow the tank to sit low enough in the water, without swamping, to displace enough to float. Nothing prevented water from coming in over the side. At Omaha Beach, only two of nearly 30 DD tanks managed to reach the beach, most of the rest were overcome by 6-foot (1.8 m) waves.
The KanColle depiction rather seems to suggest a cardboard box sitting on top of the tank, which at least one other artist has already alluded to.
It's fairies, I don't have to something something.
