That's not as much of a contrasting flavor as something like curry is, though. Fried ice cream is basically just a sweet bread shell around ice cream, so it's practically just a more oily waffle cone.

Huh, the fried ice cream I'm used to has a more savory shell. I always liked the contrast of crunchy and savory with soft and sweet. Had no clue there was a version with a sweet shell.
