The only difference, really, is intent. A sober Asuka chokes you playfully and accidentally suffocates you. A drunk Asuka is angry and purposely suffocates you because you didn't pick up her "subtle" hints and flirts.

Drunk Asuka has no restraint from letting Shinji know just how much she's pissed at him for not showing her any physical affection.
