    Hang in There, Kogasa-san 3070

    It was pretty darned tasty.

I attempted to order it on its own, but I didn't get that across, so it turned into a meal set. There were monitors with touch panels you could use for everything from ordering to paying, but since I don't understand the written characters that well, I didn't know the payment methods, so I couldn't use them.

The blurriness of the photo is a photography error on my part, but it's the only one I have, so please forgive me. (^^;)

This tells us he was in Hong Kong around late November or December 2018, since Nicholas Tse's beef Bolognese burger was being promoted at that time.

Which means he was TWENTY YEARS TOO LATE for the neon lights and Tiger Balm garden. Minimum. There's late, and then there's Kogasa.

Yamame should use this for her notes...

While it may be a bit goofy and ignorant, not being aware of Hong Kong's shift in such regulations when it's never a matter of immediate concern seems hardly an equivalent to Yamame-san's difficulty meeting plane schedules or knowing left from right. :-)

He was told the last time he was in Hong Kong that the Tiger Balm Gardens were closed before the handover... and he still commented on it a few strips ago. That's pretty damn late. Especially when this was his second trip, and he didn't apparently notice that the Osaka-like display was missing the first trip.

Plus, Google. The last time I remember a lot of streets like that would have been just before the handover. For the last 15-18 years, the Hong Kong government has been trying to stamp out all things that made Hong Kong distinctive, in the name of urban development via the URA.

Now it's become sterile and generic, while other Chinese cities celebrate their unique cultures and make it a selling point.

The HK government managed to screw up so many things, along with the single most important thing for its people: land for residential purposes.

No sane government would allow the property market to be entirely controlled by market forces, but the HK administration thought that it would be a great idea to do so. The result is that ultra-tiny washroom/bathroom that Kogasa was showering in, and most civilians live in ridiculously cramped apartments because they cannot affort larger property to stay in. And most housing apartments are also completely unmaintained because the developers don't want to pony up the money needed for doing so.

To top it off, the CCP is not allowed to intervene because HK's status as a semi-autonomous SAR has yet to expire.

    Excuse me. That, please.
    At Hong Kong International Airport...
    Nowhere But Here
Now then, what should I have to eat?
Hmm...McDonald's would be fine, but for my last meal here, I want to eat something more Hong Kong-ish.
