Unless they have made two separate models where one is.............this eyesore creature and the other is fucking amazing, but they use the shitty one in trailers to troll and lead people on, so when the movie comes out, it will be rivaling even Detective Pikachu to everyones surprise. If not, this thing might actually give me cancer right in the heart and brain.
It might have been better had they just 3D-animated the whole thing including the human characters. Why did it have to be live-action? Nobody asked for this...
Besides, they're not even being visually creative at showing how fast the little guy can be.

Apparently, Detective Pikachu went through a long process of much the same stuff - the original public reaction to Detective Pikachu was revulsion that Pikachu had fur, but at the same time, it's not like they could just make a mouse pokemon have rubbery yellow skin, either. They apparently went through ton of revisions from the ground up to make Pikachu something that wouldn't be reviled.
The Sonic movie made the mistake of keeping it all secret and not shopping it around to audiences and revising it. Now, they're trying to rush edits to basically all the CG in a month or so to make Sonic look more like Sonic without trying to move its release date after they basically already finished the movie when they set that release date.

Movie execs asked for this because Disney live action movies made money, so the suits are trying to follow the leader.
