They were Gnevny-class destroyer purchased from USSR. Three members of Big Four survived their decommission: An Shan is being kept in a military museum. Tai Yuan is now a torist attraction, and Chang Chun is now serving as a practice ship. Fu Shun was the unfortunate one, as she was scrapped soon after her decommission in 1989. A new frigate commissioned in 2013 was named in her honor.
