You're in luck. It's canon. I forgot whether it was stated in her interview with Aya (Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red) or in her article in Perfect Memento in Strict Sense, but it's there.
It's in Perfect Memento. In Bohemian Archive, she actually lets some light in during the "interview" portion, but not enough for Aya to write by, and immediately after this comes up, she mentions she still bumps into trees.
