Somehow this image reminds of the scene in Godzilla (1998) where they went inside the tunnel to escape Zilla in the latter part of the film.
I think it's a reference to the alleged abduction of Barney and Betty Hill by aliens, which the Hills claimed took place on a highway out in the New Hampshire woods in 1961. That's a 1957 Chevrolet, which is the kind of car they had when whatever happened to them happened.
