That's actually a Shounen Jump level serialization grade idea right there. They always say it's Setsubun, but it's a fight for survival of the Earth, or something like that? I can smell Hollywood baking some movies on this with several sequels like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 then 0, then last battle, last battle for the 2nd time, then resurrection or stuff out of that idea.

The insignia is just a roundel used on all US aircraft be it Navy, Air Force, or Marines. It's not an Air Force exclusive symbol.

That's the insignia for ALL United States military aircraft regardless of service. It's just that the Navy often tends to use a two-tone grey low visibility version on its carrier aircraft. Ditto with the Air Force with its stealth jets.
