Which makes it even worse, because Houshou appears to be fluent enough in English to relay her intentions to the air traffic control.

→Houshou branching from an ikazaya to possibly a chain of coffee shop like Starbuck or Coffe House.
→Gambier Bay misspoke Engrish.

Air traffic control generally uses English (or must be versed enough to be provided in English) Or at least Aviation English.

I know English is the lingua franca of air traffic and pilots - this means that Bay failed to convey her order so badly in both her native English as well as Japanese, and won't even speak up about it while being taken to the airport...
