I hope for the latter, but wouldn't it be something nice if she figured out how to work the control room and shut them down.
Naturally, that would set off a final boss of sorts or cause the place to begin to self-destruct, or set-off some other, possibly twisted, idea of defense.

As long as she makes it in time to save Chomp, cause I don't think she is ready to feel the emotional loss of her first friend

Or the crown falls off and they learn how good they had it when chompy could only take little bites out of them and could still bleed.
