Sadly AL does American ships more justice. except their IJN counterpart.... are those the 6dd?!

Besides that, I thought the real reason they got allied ships was to stop all the people from screaming about kancolle being a Japanese fanfiction rewrite of WW2 and all that junk.

At this point, whatever Shibafu do, there will be loud noises. I love how much hate and anger one man can generate. It’s delicious.

From Interview on September 2013, Tanaka had already floated the idea of implementing ships from foreign nationals including United States. That's not even one year into the game which was launched in April. It just took that long to implement, like everything else.
Didn't stop people from screaming at the game nonetheless, but now simply for not having enough of them.
Well, people screaming about it being a rewrite of WW2 or what not doesn't really matter, it's kind of too late anyway. There are many other works doing pretty much the same thing, but not so much to this level since KanColle is bigger than them.
Really though, whatever they do, they are going to be target of hates any way. Like how some people talk about Azur Lane copying (read as ripping off) KanColle having only heard both are about girls representing WW2 warships.
But well, at least people are not saying Japanese government supported it. Unlike what goes to some other stuff, like a certain celebration of victory against invaders.
