It's amazing how Americans have corrupted the Indian word 'pyjamas' into general night attire rather than night trouser-jacket.
Considering their fondness for all-in-one garments, like their unique and ubiquitous onesies, and romper shorts, you'd think they'd treasure the distinction.

as an american, i've never heard it refer to anything *other* than the classic night trouser-jacket. except in anime with these onesies, anyway. What akatsuki is holding, though? *definitely* not pajamas, by any definition I've ever heard.
Did no-one notice that Akatsuki's neck scarf thing can be seen through that thing? Actually, her hair's also visible through it. Bad Admiral! That present's a little too adult for her.

I think her calling them "pajamas" is just meant to illustrate that she's too young to wear something like that. Like she doesn't fully understand the concept of lingerie and dressing for sex appeal yet, so in her mind it's just something an adult would wear to bed.
At least do it only in your own room!Commander-san, this is really just...IT'S ADULT PAJAMAS!♪Akatsuki-chaaaan!?Wait!!
You can't put that on!!I'm gonna go change!
