Tastes change with aging son. In the same way some boys prefer not hanging around girls until a certain age, or someone would prefer less sweeter things in exchange for more bitter beverages as they grow up.

"Tasty beers", "bitch drinks", sodas, champagnes, very light wines, spiked sweets. That sort of thing.
There's tons of stuff out there. Lots of people dislike old whiskey and straight draft beer. Doesn't mean they won't ever find alcohol they like; just try something else.
To be somewhat less dismissive, the specifically Japanese preoccupation with alcohol is a (somewhat toxic) culture of social drinking that goes with adulthood and employment. You're expected to go out to drinking parties with first your college classmates and then your coworkers, and it's not particularly looked down on even if you get sloppy drunk. It's considered something of a release valve — you can say things in the context of a drinking party that you'd never dare say at work proper — but it can get dicey.
