but nothing came out of it... as they were all experimental models hence getting XMXX model numbers... heck XM8 which is part of the ACR was supposed to get the same treatment or so according to the wiki

Didn't this come from the OICW? What's the story between them looking so similar? My hunch was Korea bought the plans to the OICW and developed it from there, same airburst rounds and everything. On the other hand, it could just be a homegrown "copy" using the same concepts.

my hunch was that there were some testing involved and maybe there must be foreign military delegates that saw the testing and the South Korean delegates saw it and said "why not?" since the OICW program itself started in the 80s waiting for patents to expire probably helped... so if it is based on the XM29 of the OICW program then the rifle part must be a roller delayed system like most of the modern german guns unlike the K2 which is a stoner styled AR rotating bolt
Yo! South Korean here, and I had a chance to learn about it during my mandatory military service. K11 is based from OICW with the mindset of 'We're going to do something that US failed!'
The problem was that it was a bit too much rushed hoping that we would achieve something big, and we had an accident with the gun actually exploding while testing (see the 'damaged' image of her). Since then the design and such came back and forth, but whenever it's depicted in public it's usually shown with the early design, which does look closer to OICW.
The artist for K11 is a South Korean who's working at Japan now, so you can see that he's really good with small details, like her name card looking very similar to actual S&T industries company badge.

well if the material is top grade I can rely on the rifle part of the gun more I'm not so sure about the air burst grenade launcher part of it... rather I'll play it safe and stick with the M203 which was what US decided upon the discontinuation of the OICW program
