    Seeing how their lines sometimes do refer to their gun's history, I think the etching tool includes history in their memory for further understanding of their weapons, that's just my hypothesis however

    Sadly Mosin Nagant's MOD story disproved that. She actually mentioned she had to read up on her gun's history after she was modified to T-doll because her system rejects the weapon. Although another lore piece from the artbook (IIRC) mentioned the girls and their guns are matched based on their personality, so they probably can "relate" themselves with their guns better
