I didn't watch it myself but from my friend's description and comments of what happened it seemed pretty fucked up, she also thought it was very unrealistic of how and why it happened.

I've read the manga and yes, it's quite a dark story and messed up at some moments. And bloody too. I don't know about Raising Project but I do think it's darker than Madoka. Then again, it depends how they're gonna adapt it in anime (didn't even know there's gonna be an adaptation of it). Too bad there's no new scan since more than a year ago. I'm hoping that the anime catch up to the last chapter available at the moment so I can now what's going on next.

1st volume of Rising Project was already dark after a few chapters... Then goes even dark after that.
