This is the sort of lame excuse employed by mediocre artists, who'd rather blame the viewer than work on improving themselves.
"Can't draw better than me? THEN YOU CAN'T CRITICISE MY ART! HAH, I WIN!"
Though to be fair, the art is really not bad. There are plenty of worse pics on Danbooru. It just really annoys me that the artist felt compelled to point out the obvious joke with a stupid line of text plus arrow. Did he think we wouldn't get it otherwise? How patronizing. This is the art equivalent of "Haha! I made a joke! A joke! Get it? GET IT?!" If you need to point out the joke, you didn't tell it right.
To be fair, in the series, there are also "Reality" and "What Hiyori is seeing" tags whenever Hiyori, Minami and Yutaka are around. Maybe the author was just making reference to that.

well, I was pointing more towards that fact that western art (or at least westerners attempting to imitate anime) tends to get hated. I can't say I'm too fond of it either (especially westerners who think big eyes are its only defining trait), but in a rare instance that it's actually good, dammit, I'll say that it's good, and that's precisely what this is.
