Artist's commentary
Days Of Future Past/Jojo
Does it ever happen to you that one of your best friends asks you "are you familiar with the art of John Byrne? I used to be friends with him", and you are like "Well, he's just one if not the most important X-Men artist in history and considered the most important Wolverine developer." Does that happen to you? No? Just me?
Anyhow, in case you didn't know, this one is based on one of the most famous comic book covers of all time, by John Byrne. It is about the saga Days of future past (of which there was a loose and severely inferior adaptation a few years ago). The best adaptation for it so far would be in the 90s X-Men cartoon, where it was combined with the first Bishop adventure and also another plot about Gambit being a suspected traitor (Gambit has a way shadier past in the comics than he did in the cartoon). Still, the plot worked and then it was attached to the first Cable adventure, as they weren't going to do an X-Force cartoon anytime soon.
For obvious reasons I had considered doing this cover since the beginning, but it has been parodied a billion times, that I felt it was too obvious. Seriously, just google "Days of future past cover parody" and you'll see tons of them. Besides that, I think it's better I waited as my skills have improved since then and it looks better than what it would have been.
I believe this was the best way to close 2017.
