    Hang in There, Kogasa-san 2582

As a way to end things, "When I came home, my network hub had died" sounds like some Vocaloid song title, but today finishes off this trip chapter.

The day after the con, we went to the Hakurei Brewery, where we bought some sake and ate some cake, and since they were holding a Hokkaido Fair at the Okazaki Service Area, we bought yakisoba box lunches and drank Co-up Guarana, but nothing gag-worthy happened, so I'll spare you all that. :-)

And so, today is the last update of the year. Thank you very much for this year as well, everyone. And have a Happy New Year!

I still haven't thought of a gag for tomorrow's traditional strip!

Reader-added tags for now consist of "Lead-in" and "Thunder! Thunder!" (quoting from Aion in Fire Emblem).

I'm quite certain she is referring to a network switch and not a hub? Hubs were all but made obsolete by network switches in the early 2000s because of poor performance caused by frequent packet collisions.

Maybe, but she is using the words "nettowaaku habu" to refer to the object she's holding.

Might just be a legacy name for that class of object, like how people refer to a cable modem as such even though it isn't technically a modem, or the gas pedal on a car with a diesel engine.

In Britain some router/modems provided by some ISPs, such as BT or Sky, are called [ Home ] Hubs. Maybe Japan also ?

I generally swap the provided ones out for my excellent Billion ( Taiwanese ) router/modem. one of the best made: the equally good FRITZ!Box used by most Germans has a MyFRITZ! service allowing communication with your FRITZ!Box over the internet to check stuff as Kogasa is to her server.

Generally, South --- not North --- Korea has an internet that makes ours in America or Britain look like two tin cans, so I imagine Taiwan and Japan do as well.

    Right after starting the trip...
    I see.

    Huh?
    My network hub died...
I'm not connecting to our server...

    What's wrong?
Looks like there was a thunderstorm around our home.
When lightning strikes nearby, my PC resets.
