Considering how much quartz I had to blow after that just to get Nursery Rhyme, a four star... I think mine tapped out with Okita.

You can borrow mine. I got Scathach, Okita and Jack in a few ten rolls/tickets each, but I'm out of SQ and tickets stock now. Just give it back in about next month.
You should be. Gambling addiction is a terrible thing, even if it does end in waifu.
Indeed. Which is why the best route is going F2P or setting realistic, hard limits on what you will give the game. For me, those rules are
1) Guaranteed Gachas. These guarantee a Five star and require paid quartz,
2) 30 USD a month. No more, and often less. A lot less. As in, nothing. Coincidentally, 30 USD is almost the exact price for the Guaranteed Gacha. Which really you only have to worry about twice a year anyway.
You can earn a lot of F2P quartz (I've gotten somewhere around 400 F2P quartz since NA launch, and would have gotten more if some of the master missions didn't REALLY fuck me over), so honestly it's down to spending wisely. If you know you have a gambling problem already... for fuck's sake, stay away from this and every other gacha game. Don't be that one guy who took out a loan from the yakuza to try and roll a digital card that gets you a set of sprites and some voicelines.
If you find yourself going above those self-imposed limits... that should be a red flag.

The funny thing about Fire Emblem: Heroes is that the prices for the rolls are so ludicrous that it's not hard at all to stay strong and stay F2P. (But then again, maybe it's "normal" for some of these, because I sure don't play any other games like this...) Orbs are basically $0.67 apiece, and you throw down an average of four orbs a character. $30 is basically just two full rolls of the gacha. (5 characters, no guarantees, 6% chance of a 5* with a +0.5% per full gacha you previously failed to get a 5*, and the banner only lasts a week to a month, with those boosted odds disappearing with the banner if you haven't pulled a 5*, so chop chop!) Meanwhile, I tend to get about 80 orbs a month nowadays just playing free, so to just match that, I'd need to be throwing down something like $50 a month.
I've said it before, I might spend money on FEH if the prices were absolutely insane. I've sent home enough goddamn Raighs as it is, I'm not spending money I could use to buy whole goddamn consoles to PLAY the games I could buy with the money I'm saving not paying for the gacha on this ludicrous moneysink.
(For reference, to get up to a 50% chance of getting a single 5*, you need to drop basically $40's worth of orbs.)
Add to that that FEH has a notorious problem with a few programs that let you hack the game and just straight-up cheat to get whole rosters of 5* Lv 40+10 characters with no way to tell who's cheating and who's just a lunatic whale unless they do something obvious (using duplicates of a unique character), and I don't see why anyone's spending money on the game - it's just so OBVIOUSLY overpriced for what's obviously going to just be another set of 3* disappointments I send straight back home that it's a total turn-off.
Plus, there's an increasing number of things that you just can't do with orbs/real money. You get limited amounts of refining ore only from ranking highly in the arena's assault mode or doing quests or other limited events. Basically, to get the best stuff, you need to already be able to win without it. Inversely, the reward for paying to win is a bunch of materials you clearly don't need anymore.
