Yoshizaki Mine says in an interview (the official guidebook vol. 6, page 25) that some of the cryptid Friends are created in response to a need by the mobile RPG team.
The Nexon's mobile game team needed to create rare Friends in order for the gacha system to work, but Yoshizaki was hesitant to discriminate among real animals, so he created more number of Friends of non-existent animals (that looks very rare) than initially planned.

Thy could have chosen very rare animals like gorillas or rhinoceros, though. Anyway, this special Friends' background story would be hard to explain but I guess they will just do it as they with Tsuchinoko.
I heard there will be new mobile game to catch up the hype. But I'm not sure it will be success considering their actions...
