Unfortunately, I fear that's inevitable. Neither of them has clearly confessed to the other yet, so a ring is doomed to cause a fresh wave of shoujou-manga misunderstandings. That said, I do think that, once the dust settles, there will be a relationship upgrade, perhaps all the way up to actually deploying the ring. We just have to earn our happy ending a little first.
