I'm not too familiar with mosquito traps, but wouldn't that smell be distracting for sleep?
Nope. Not compared to the damn mosquitoes. Take it from me, I had to use one while I was in China on an internship in the boonies. The smell was nothing next to a mosquito buzzing *literally* in your ears.
Just in case it wasn't obvious, the "cousin who found a job out in the city" that the commentary is talking about is Kouhai-chan, because the kanji for "cousin" used are for a female cousin, 従姉.
I'd be more worried about my hair being that close to a smoldering ember...
Well, while indoors you can always use electric fumigator. It's essentially a small heater using a vial of fumigating liquid or a tray for porous pastilles treated with same liquid. While it does need power, you can turn it on for a few hours before sleep.
Really helps if your room is filled with literally hundreds of mosquitoes in a house close to a marsh. Definitely better that slapping yourself all night.
