I think a big issue we do have right now is the amount of media creating memes of certain things being more arousing than they would otherwise be. That's literally marketing paraphilia.

Although I'm not sure if Western society would allow any attempt to curtail that trend.

I fail to see why it should need be curtailed at all unless it's promoting something actually damaging. It's not like this is something new either, what cultures found attractive in the past was 100% influenced by stories, plays, visual art, etc.

Well, communication between individuals is definitely changed once an element of physical attraction is introduced especially if said attraction is one-sided.
