Can confirm, those damn centipedes elicit that kind of reaction in people. And that the bites hurt.

I think it's the legs and the hairs just looking very wrong. I haven't grown up with them, but they trigger me the same ways.

But man, Akitsu Maru is all sorts of messed up if the Army taught her those were walking rations.

Some people have had to go to hospital after getting more than one bite too; thankfully, I don't live on the ground floor, so I don't suffer from insect infiltration very much. Regular centipedes are fine, it's just those horrible poison ones that are bad.

Centipedes are all venomous, much like all spiders are venomous. However, the common house centipede, which looks more like a horribly mutated cricket with far too many legs than anything else, is pretty much harmless. On the other hand, if it has fat, flat segments and noticeable jaws... STAY AWAY. From the description in the comic, it's one of THOSE mofos.

Poisonous and venomous insect are the same word in Japanese, unfortunately. Though I'm sure that actually eating a centipede raw wouldn't be much fun either.... Interestingly enough, it doesn't actually put the venom in directly, it sprays it in the general vicinity of the puncture wound seeping in over time.

I think the common mukade is Scolopendra subspinipes japonica, it looks right, and it's got the venom - at any rate, it's probably a subspinipes.

There's also the one with the ohgodsomanylegs, the gejigeji, but that's harmless.

Obviously she had Naked Snake as her mentor. He would eat damn near anything, even huge pythons and crocodiles!

I'd be much more willing to eat any reptile than any arthropod.

And folk medicine, don't forget. They say centipede oil is good for toothache.

Generally, reptile of any kind tastes like chicken with other flavors mixed in. It's not a bad meat. Gator is really good, but I've only had it once.

He eats arthropods too. Canonically, cobalt blue tarantulas, emperor scorpions, and a Kenyan species of mangrove crabs were part of his potential diet during Operation: Snake Eater. And yes, I know none of these critters are native to any place in Russia; in-game dialogue states that they (and other animals not native to Russia) were probably imported to the fictional Russian region of Tselinoyarsk by the Soviets for research.

I'm sorry, did I forgot to mention that he prefers to kill his own food in the wild? That's right, Naked Snake wrestlers pythons and crocs to death before eating them!

As a starter, try locust/grasshoper. With the right spices, it will come out delicious, especialy when eaten with hot rice.

The fresher the meat (or eggs!) the better the taste.

    Was it a snake?
    Erm...
    Poor-eater Maru
Hell no, it's a centipede!! Mukade generally refers to the giant venomous one found in Japan, with other words being used for other centipedes.
Woah! That was one of them wriggly varmints just then!
    There's emergency rations?
