The artist commentary implies it wound up like that by accident, though. I'm not sure whether that means he's gotten some of the meanness out of his system, and just defaults to romcom, or he was always going for a mean ending, but accidentally backed himself into a corner where it had to be romcom to make sense...

Am I seeing this right? I had to rub my eyes and wash my face after reading this finale. Am I... really reading something from masara? This ending... This was nice and everything.

What I can see of it just looks like a mirror-reversed version of the same kanji that were translated as "Confession Success Rate" in the earlier comics.

if you reverse the image it says "告白成功...?", meaning "Confession Success...?"
