I am currently keeping them due to potential of the equipment being upgradeable in Akashi's Improvement Arsenal or via Conversion.
Won't save them even then. Unless you believe they will give you more than 11AA firepower (and therefore will be better than Zero 52 skilled max upgraded model).
Hey, it's not like you've got so full an inventory that there's not even place for ONE collectible cute little fighter... Why would you even scrap it?
With that mindset you eventually reach a point where you start buying expansion slots not because you don't have enough space for your ships, but rather because you need space for equipment. All those jelly donuts and fastsuck barrels take up valuable space.
I'm paranoid about them being needed for something else in a quest later down the line, so while she can't take them on Sorties, Taiyou can keep them in her room or whatever on my base.
She has to feed them and groom them and take them for walks,erm.. flying, herself though. No passing them off onto Houshou in a few weeks.

Inventory slots are usually an issue later in the game. I'm currently scrapping onigiris, hayasui barrels and repair teams just to keep all the new stuff.

Eh, if you take all the base equipment off (currently) unused ships and scrap it, it can make up a lot of the shortfall if you haven't done it - since all equipment, on your girls or no, counts (that's why it's 5 slots and 20 equips to do event maps - 5x4 slots = 20).
From what I read at the bottom text, I think Ido's admiral didn't actually scrapped the Type-96 Kai fighter here. He just hoarded it inside his warehouse, which isn't different from being scrapped.

Nah, he ended up scrapping it in the end. Some of us don't.
No, he might be right - it depends on how you want to break the sentence down; it's probably more likely that he didn't (since that's not really Ido's style)
That's my hope too - the crappy component being required for an upgrade. Which everyone else destroyed for bauxite.
Except, how is scrapping something for parts to make an upgrade better than scrapping something for raw materials?
Besides, why is this treated as tragic, exactly? The fairies are the personified portions of equipment, and there isn't any evidence they get scrapped, so this is literally as emotionally impactful as real-world equipment upgrades. It's not like the Admiral is taking them away because he feels she doesn't deserve them, it's because he thinks she deserves better equipment. (At least, if she's used at all - in which case, the tragedy would more be about how SHE is thrown into the back of the barracks and left to rot...)

Think of it this way. You have a kid and he has this old, dirty, ragged cloth bear he has been playing with since he can remember. You bring him home a new, shiny teddy bear with 100% real bear skin. Try convincing your kid to give you his old toy so you can throw it back. Half the time you will end with a crying child and a wife nagging you the rest of the week.
It might not be much but it was her Type-96 Kai Fighter... You just don't take toys away from kids to replace them for new toys, heck you don't take toys from adults either to replace them for new ones...

Uhhh... Have you played with any kids recently? My niece will ask for things she'll forget she even has not even a day later. She CONSTANTLY wants new things, and old things are constantly slipping out of memory. My brother once simply threw away all of her jigsaw puzzles (which are one of her favorite toys) because she left them all so jumbled up on the floor my brother felt it would be easier to just throw them all away than to sort them when trying to vacuum her room, and the response was just that "Gram" went out and bought more puzzles. She has "favorite" toys and dolls in each of the four households that will babysit her, and will completely forget they exist until actually within line of sight once again.

Well it's not like all fresh-from-event girls are coming with 4/4 slots stuffed. They usually don't even have 4 slots. And yeah, I don't have any base equipment, all scrapped a looong time ago.

Except that this isn't a daycare center, it's a bloody war! (Although the difference can become largely academic in KanColle) If that ratty old teddy bear can easily get that kid killed and the brand-spanking-new real bear skin teddy bear may be the difference that saves her life, it's a rather easy choice to make.

I greatly disagree with you there and this is a case by case basis per child per living style. Sentimental value isn't something you can just put a number on. Both you and Braxa51 are correct but don't treat what he said as completely wrong. I have experience both sides of it and say it really depends on how well off your family is.
Much Poorer kids will gain much sentimental value from their toys especially if they aren't in a position to get new toys from their parents/guardians than rich spoiled brats that know if they cry about it, will get that new Tablet or Bike (That they will ride only once) or Expensive Remote control car.
I have seen kids basically get a new toy every damn week having practically a warehouse full of toys vs Kids who are lucky enough to get 1 toy twice a year(birthday and Christmas) and the Toy they got from their divorced Father that they don't live with is something they cherish that they would never want to get rid of even if you try to give them something that is Objectively "Better".
I have met Adults that still have their very first Stuffed Animal that they had since a kid because it was the last gift they got from their Grandparents before they died when they were only 1-2 years old.

I had a few shouting matches with my Dad when he wanted to buy a new 4K laptop for me for business purposes, because I thought my old machine was good enough.
It took until he showed me how 1080p was already a good step up from 900 on a 4K TV that I conceded and looked up the cheapest laptop that could do the job (needed 4K touchscreen for the work).
It boils down to how spoiled the kid is. My sister drops (and wastes) lots of rice grains when she eats, while the table between my mouth and bowl... well, doesn't exist due to my positioning, but I rarely commit the sin of dropping food (e.g. wasting food). Probably because I'm more empathetic than she is and less self-centered deep down.
Strange, given biologically it should be males that are more self-centered (because in theory they can reproductively replace all males in their community, while each female can only have so many offspring)... guess cultural influence beats biological once again!

Depends on the pilots and their familiarity with the ship.
Getting a bunch of late-war scrubs in Zeroes that might not work well on that particular ship design, compared to early-war pros in older planes which are highly reliable in safe landing and takeoff on that ship design, is not a good trade.
NWSiaCB has trouble with diversity, everything should follow an exact pattern to him. If he can't predict a pattern he gets upset about it. Just look at his critics about Yoshinori art or any other story plot he can't predict the output because everything should follow the same boring pattern we all know.
Once you get to know him you understand why everything must be black or white... when in truth life, art and everything else is a shade of greys. It doesn't matter how someone encloses it into a boring pattern.

Pilots only matter to a point, when the machine is highly lacking they can't make up the difference. The Type-96 is so underperforming by 1942 that it's questionable any level of pilot skill would matter. It's literally worse performing then newer bombers by that point SBD and Avengers would have performance advantages over it in several areas. It would be silly anyway as the ship was quite capable of operating the Zero, indeed that was all it was ever planned to have and the Type 96 is a completely fictional anachronism. It had been converted after the A6M entered service after all and the planned initial air group was fighter heavy with the A6M being the chosen aircraft. However in the event they were quickly shifted to escort operations and loaded basically entirely with TBs.
This was workable because whatever the A6Ms design paradigm's faults in the modern air combat arena the very light weight and large wing area of the Zero gave it good take off performance and docile low speed handling.

I was being hypothetical.
Though I haff no clue why they gave her that shitty old plane design by default.
Please...Noo!Ahh!Nothing at all!Unequip her, Taiyou. Please don't scrap her!Don't come out!bwmmmbwmmmThe Type-96 Kai fighter.Type-96 Kai fighters are just too weak. There's nothing here!Afterwards, the Type-96 Kai fighter was stored away in the warehouse, which is as good as being scrapped.
