I think I'd like to bone up on my history while I bone up Patchouli.

Nobody around... except for Koakuma, who you know would be watching.

PS:...not entirely sure which to use for 'who'/'whom' here.
PPS: I suppose Patchy is referring more to the reading areas opposed to Koakuma around the shelves... which are generally more visible. Koakuma all but confirmed to be watching.

Thanks, but it was more I was having trouble figuring out whether the 'you' of the 'you know' clause overrode 'Koakuma' as the subject there. The "Can you turn it into He/She/They?" rule would definitely make it 'who'. I should really try to remember that heuristic/algorithm (I don't know if it can be logically proven, so I can't determine it to be an algorithm).

Easy rule of thumb for who/whom - replace it with he/him and see which one fits better.

'I will sell it to who/whom?'

'I will sell it to he/him?'

'I will sell it to whom?'

Don't forget about the occasional magician who would steal borrow her books from time to time~

It's easier if you learn how to diagram sentences. In this case, "who" is the subject of the clause "who would be watching", which acts as an object (you know [who would be watching]).

Also, the he/she/they/who vs. him/her/them/whom rule isn't so much proven as definitional. The first set are all subject pronouns while the second set are all object pronouns. More of a theorem than an algorithm. (It gets a little murky if the verb is "be", since it's approximately equally legitimate to use a subject pronoun as a predicate nominative or an object pronoun in the accusative case, and various people will argue that either usage is the "correct" one.)
