This must be equivalent but reverse to the fujoshi targeting a perfectly hetero show and pairing two random male characters together, seemingly only to piss off regular fans.
The writer for Yuri On Ice actually hinted (among other things, when discussing the characters in an interview )at Mila having a romantic interest in Otabek in the future, when/if the series continues.
I would have liked Yuri on ice to be more about the competition rather than the yaoi, but then again I'm not the target audience. It's like a girl complaining that Flip Flappers is too gay. I'm like a super homophobe too, but anime isn't the real world. Preferences is like religion, if you don't flaunt it in front of someone no one is going to care what you like or do.
Yuri on ice felt like Naruto to me. The story and setup and everything was pretty good (I really liked the opening), but a good portion of the fanbase is pure cancer. It's like the anime summoned all the SJW to become weebs at the same time or something. Like half of these people don't realize that the main target of yaoi are girls, and yuri is guys, not vice versa.
