The Battleship Yamato. I went to check it out [Daily Kirisawa 1013 / Hiroshima Centennial]
I wish they’d hold official “KanColle” events in Kure or Onomichi, too. Why is it always in Yokohama? I wonder what the upcoming movie adaptation will be like.
My father and I went to see the Yamato set just before it closed to the public. It was already quite worn down; when I looked closely up close, I could see the plywood substrate peeking through where the paint had peeled off. Even so, the metallic sheen of the parts where the paint was intact and the “weathering” that made it look like it had seen actual combat were amazing, and I learned a lot from the painting techniques used by the movie’s art staff. Looking back now, it might have actually been better to visit after it had seen some wear and tear rather than when it was brand new, so I could compare the two.
Both Onomichi and Mukojima were incredibly beautiful.
“So come on down to Hiroshima!”
