Lowest common denominator protagonist. Because protagonists of stories like these are supposed to be stand-ins for the reader, they want to make sure that the protagonist not only gets all the luck, but also doesn't actually demonstrate any intellectual capabilities or interests that you can't assume every single one of the target reader base won't demonstrate. It tends to wind up creating a This Loser Is You scenario.

Anyway, Akebono clearly has a clear goal in mind with her meddling - Kasumi liked the comparison to a mother.

Well, it's clear as days that's how this whole protagonist thing goes. I'm just looking for an excuse for it to be, well, somewhat realistic.
