Trying to jump in and "ninja" a series doesn't usually do anyone any good, since the series will sound better if a single translator uses their own conventions consistently throughout a pool, and you can also create double translation situations. There are over one hundred thousand untranslated images on Danbooru, so fighting over the newest ones seems particularly silly.

So it's customary here to have a single person working on translating a particular pool? I got a somewhat different impression from some other pools, where I noticed that there are 2 to 3 different people doing the translation. And no, several of them are relatively young, rather than being such long-runners that translators have gradually came and went over the course of time (usually measured in years) for any of a host of possible reasons.

It's what I do, at the very least.
It's clear that there are different series that different translators follow. When I can see certain series that clearly have at least one translator attentively following it, then I don't try to step on their series. Not everyone does this, however, and I've had series that I upload, where if I take fifteen minutes to look up an expression, someone else is throwing up a second batch of translation notes on it, and it annoys me, so I don't do it to other people.
Besides, there's plenty of other things that are abandoned and need translation, so why waste my own limited translatium on something that will be translated, anyway? (At least, not unless it's been a month or something.)

I'm not trying to say that you're ungrateful, I'm just glad to know that there are people who can understand and translators here are appreciated instead of being treated as mere tools to fill in translations. I've seen some users here who even use profane remarks and insults when the post is just an hour late from the usual time it takes to have the translation done, which is pretty saddening, don't you think?

Good points... though the last bit brings me to another issue that I've noticed: Series in which new uploads get translated on a relatively consistent basis (typically before the next upload comes up), but suddenly the translations stop even though new pages get added over the next few days/weeks, and the translator who used to handle the series is clearly active by the simple fact that other series that they've been concurrently working have not suffered any noticeable interruptions. You'd think someone else would take up the slack eventually, yet here I am seeing those series stagnating for a month or more (thankfully some seem to have gone on a hiatus after a few uploads). And for the record, I had largely refrained from making more than one or two translation bumps on such cases; it doesn't seem like there's much point if no response/change happens.

Yes it's saddening... and I quoted your post specifically because the very first time I ever asked such a question many months ago, in a tone not different at all from my comment here, you snapped at me and assumed I was one of those ungrateful users (for the record, you never responded to my follow-up comment where I expressed my offense at the unwarranted accusation). I'm sure you can see how that all-too brief comment from you would give the impression that you're agreeing with the user you're quoting that I'm being "ungrateful" towards this site's translators.
