To be fair, most westerners were bemused by eastern temples and ceremonies. And sometimes revolted. Probably different easterners are as wary of other eastern religions as those westerners.

Traditional westerners are certainly shocked by the great American religions such as Mormonism or Jehovah's Witnesses.

Funny thing for me is, I had a dream a month or so before I first saw this image on a forum, and I clearly recall some offhand remark about Christian shipgirls in it.
